Overview

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s Emergency Medicine Program is led by renowned emergency medicine physicians and a highly skilled international nursing staff. The Emergency Department is housed in a state-of-the-art facility that offers:

More than 40 individual patient rooms
An observation unit ‎
A fast track area, providing rapid care to patients who require immediate attention, but whose ‎symptoms are not life-threatening ‎
Dedicated laboratory and imaging services, allowing for prompt diagnoses

The Emergency Department operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Patients First care means that clear understanding between patients and caregivers is paramount. Interpreters are available at all times, including onsite Arabic translators.

What We Treat

The Emergency Medicine Program provides care for all patients who arrive at the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi Emergency Department, seeking medical attention. Many diagnoses are made by an emergency medicine specialist during the Emergency Department visit, while others may require additional inpatient or outpatient evaluation.

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is also designated by the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HAAD) as a specialized center for stroke care within the emirate and a Chest Pain Center. The Emergency Department is prepared with specific resources and training that allows caregivers to quickly assess stroke patients, stabilize their condition, and provide rapid access to treatment.

The Emergency Medicine Program team also provide expert care to patients who are experiencing chest pain. Our highly skilled team of experts are trained to recognize heart attack symptoms. Urgent care for anyone showing early signs of a heart attack can prevent long-term damage so it is important that patients have access to a team of trained specialists to ensure they receive the right heart attack treatment.

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi does not provide care in Obstetrics, Orthopedics, or Pediatrics. If patients who require care in these specialties arrive at the Emergency Department, they will be evaluated to ensure their condition is stable and then referred to an appropriate facility.

Diagnosis & Treatment

Diagnosis at the Emergency Department

Each patient arriving at the Emergency Department is met by a nurse and a member of the registration team. After registration, patients are guided to a treatment area where an Emergency Medicine Program physician evaluates their condition. Some patients may require additional evaluation, such as blood work or imaging studies.

Treatment at the Emergency Department

After the evaluation is complete, the treatment team will discuss the appropriate next step with the patient. This may mean that the patient is discharged home, referred to the clinic, admitted to the hospital, or transferred to another facility.

The Emergency Medicine Program team ensures that patients are provided with all the information they need to follow the recommended treatment plan. Nurses work with each patient to carefully review all medical instructions. They also explain when to return for follow-up care and in what situations the patient should return to the Emergency Department.

To help make the transition home as smooth as possible, pharmacy services are available at the hospital 24 hours a day. The on-site pharmacist can provide clarification on questions about prescription medications to be taken at home.
