12Dr. Reem Alhawas, MD, is a Staff Physician within the Emergency Medicine Department of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Hospital Care Institute. She is also Program Director of the Emergency Medicine Residency.
Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Alhawas worked at Bon Secours Healthcare System in Southern Virginia, US and at King Fahad University Hospital in Khobar, KSA. Dr. Alhawas received her medical degree from Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal, Dammam, KSA.
She completed her residency at George Washington University, DC, US. Following that, she worked as an attending physician and an associate professor at George Washington University Hospital, Washington DC, US, where she completed her fellowship in medical education and simulation as well as completing Master teacher and leadership development program at the George Washington school of Education and Human Development.
During her training, she participated in several research activities and received two research grants for community outreach programs. Dr. Alhawas also served as part of the residency program education committee and maintains her role as an adjunct associate professor.
Following her fellowship, Dr. Alhawas returned home to Saudi Arabia, where she worked as an attending physician in the department of emergency medicine, King Fahad University Hospital, and assumed an academic role for teaching both residents and medical students.
She served as the head of the simulation division for the department. Dr. Alhawas moved back to the US with her family and worked in an underserved program in Portsmouth, Virginia. She continued her academic journey there, serving as the residency site director for the rotating emergency/family medicine programs. Dr. Alhawas resides in Abu Dhabi with her two dogs. She enjoys travel, outdoor activities and teaching.
