What is Robotic Surgery?

Robotic surgery, or robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery, allows surgeons to perform minimally invasive surgery with more precision, flexibility and control.

At Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, robotic surgery is currently carried out with the use of the da Vinci surgical system, which consists of a 3D camera and four, thin robotic arms with surgical instruments attached. The surgeon operates by controlling the arms from a computer console using hand and foot inputs, whilst watching a real-time magnified, high-definition view of the surgical area on screen.

What are the benefits to robotic surgery?

Robotic surgery enables surgeons to perform the most delicate and complex procedures through very small incisions. Using the robotic system, the surgeon is able to have better visualization through a highly magnified, high resolution of the operating procedure leading to a more
