Welcome to the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Fellowship Program, the first program of its kind in the region. This fellowship is designed to deliver advanced, comprehensive training in heart failure and transplant cardiology through a multidisciplinary, patient centered model of care.

Our mission is to develop the next generation of regional and international leaders in heart failure management by combining clinical excellence, academic rigor, innovation, and compassionate care. Fellows will train alongside world class specialists in a collaborative environment that emphasizes evidence-based practice, research, and continuous quality improvement.

Program Director, Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant

Program Overview

The Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is a one-year advanced subspecialty training program designed for cardiologists seeking focused expertise in the management of advanced heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, and heart transplantation.

The fellowship is based within a high-volume quaternary-care academic medical center and national referral program. Fellows gain comprehensive clinical experience across the continuum of advanced heart failure care while working within a multidisciplinary model consistent with Cleveland Clinic’s integrated approach to cardiovascular medicine.

Program Structure

The fellowship provides immersive clinical training with progressive responsibility in the evaluation and management of patients with advanced heart failure, including those requiring temporary and durable mechanical circulatory support and heart transplantation.

Clinical experience includes:

Inpatient and outpatient advanced heart failure management

Mechanical circulatory support, including ECMO and durable LVADs

Heart transplant evaluation, listing, peri-operative care, and post-transplant management

Long-term follow-up of transplant recipients

Participation in advanced heart failure and transplant multidisciplinary conferences

Education

The program includes a structured educational curriculum designed to complement clinical training and support academic development. Educational activities include:

Advanced heart failure and transplant conferences

Hemodynamics, imaging, and case-based teaching

Journal clubs and guideline-based discussions

Simulation-based training for advanced cardiovascular and critical care scenarios

Fellows are expected to actively participate in teaching activities and contribute to the educational mission of the division.

Research

Fellows are encouraged to engage in clinical research, outcomes research, and quality improvement initiatives. Dedicated research mentorship is provided, with opportunities to:

Participate in ongoing institutional research projects

Present abstracts at national and international scientific meetings

Publish in peer-reviewed journals

Mentorship

Fellows receive close mentorship from faculty with expertise in advanced heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, and transplantation. Mentorship focuses on clinical excellence, academic development, and career planning, preparing graduates for advanced clinical and academic roles.
