Diagnosis & Treatment

Diagnosis of Sinonasal Disorders

In order to accurately diagnose sinonasal disorders, our team will first review your medical history and perform a thorough physical examination. A nasal endoscope may be used, which involves inserting a very thin tube with a camera on the end into the nostril, to allow doctors to view inside your nasal cavity. If needed, the endoscope can also be used to take a sample of tissue for further investigation (a biopsy). Sometimes, image tests such as a CT scan may be needed to confirm a diagnosis.

Treatment of Sinonasal Disorders

Our doctors follow the highest guidelines when treating our patients both medically and surgically. Treatment for sinonasal disorders includes:

Endoscopic sinus surgery: Minimally invasive, image guided surgery to treat a range of sinus conditions.
Endoscopic orbital surgery: Treatment for Graves’ orbitopathy (thyroid eye disease) in which an endoscope and small instruments are inserted through the nose to remove bone surrounding the eye and reduce pressure.
Septoplasty: Surgery to straighten the cartilage and bone between the nostrils (the septum).
Rhinoplasty: Surgery to alter the shape or size of the nose and to improve breathing.
Turbinate surgery: Surgery to reduce the nasal turbinators (small structures inside the nose) to improve air flow in patients with nasal obstruction.
Endoscopic skull base surgery: Minimally invasive, endoscopic surgery to treat a range of skull base conditions or to remove cancerous and non-cancerous growths from the underside of the brain.
