Diagnosis at Gynecological Surgery Program

On your first visit, you will meet with a specialist gynecology nurse and a gynecologist. They will ask you to discuss your symptoms, obtain a complete medical history, and perform a physical examination. Please bring any relevant past medical documents, reports and images with you to the consultation. Additional laboratory testing and imaging may be needed.

Diagnostic testing may include:

  • Advanced ultrasound imaging within the Gynecology Clinic
  • SIS (Saline SonoHysterography/Saline Infused Sonography)
  • Office hysteroscopy
  • Colposcopy
  • Endometrial, vaginal, and vulvar biopsy
  • Cervical cancer screening/Pap Smear and HPV genotype testing
  • MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
  • CT scan (Computed Tomography Imaging).

Treatment with Gynecological Surgery

Our team of highly trained gynecologists will discuss medical and surgical treatment options with you, to ensure the care you receive is personalized. All patients who have surgical treatment will return to Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi for routine follow-up appointments with their surgeon.

The Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi Gynecology Program also offers focused treatments for medically high-risk patients, such as organ transplant patients, immunocompromised patients, bariatric patients, and women with genetic predispositions to breast, endometrial and ovarian cancer.

Surgical approaches that are offered:

  • Robotic surgery
  • Laparoscopic surgery: Minimally invasive or keyhole surgery
  • Laparotomy: Open abdominal technique surgery
  • Hysteroscopic surgery
  • Uterine surgery: Operative hysteroscopy and dilation and curettage
  • Vaginal surgery
  • Vulvar and perineal surgery
  • Myomectomy (removal of uterine fibroids)
  • Polypectomy (removal of uterine and cervical polyps)
  • Oophorectomy +/- Salpingectomy (Removal of ovary +/- fallopian tube)
  • Hysterectomy (removal of the uterus)
  • Gynecologic cancer surgery and follow-up care
  • Risk reducing surgery for patients at risk of inherited gynecologic cancers
  • Deep infiltrating endometriosis resection
  • Ovarian cystectomy
  • Endometrial ablation
  • Cervical surgery (LEEP/LETZ, and Conization procedures)

Medical approaches that are offered:

  • Oral contraceptive pills, injections, patches, and implants for diagnosed medical conditions
  • Intrauterine contraceptive device insertion and removal
  • Antibiotics for infections
  • HPV vaccination
  • Vulvar disorder therapies
  • Management of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
  • Management of hormonal imbalance
  • Peri and post-menopausal hormone treatment
  • Vaginal pessary insertion
  • Pelvic pain injections
  • Pelvic floor physical therapy.
