Dr. Yasir Elhassan, MBBS, MRCP, PhD, is a Staff Physician in the Medical Subspecialties Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Elhassan held the position of Consultant Endocrinologist at the internationally-renowned Queen Elizbeth Hospital in Birmingham, UK. He also held the position of Honorary Associate Professor at the Institute of Metabolism and Systems Research, College of Medical and Dental Sciences, University of Birmingham.
Dr. Elhassan undertook his internship and residency training in the UK (he worked in hospitals in London, Newcastle and Sheffield) and completed his Endocrinology training in Birmingham. He also obtained a PhD degree by research from the University of Birmingham with a thesis titled “Hormonal Regulation of Skeletal Muscle Metabolism”.
Dr. Elhassan is an active researcher and he has published extensively in the fields of adrenal disroders, gonadal disorders, pituitary disorders, and neuroendocrine tumors. He has featured as first or senior author in some of the highest impact factor journals worlwide such as Annals of Internal Medicine, Cell Reports, European Journal of Endocrinology, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Lancet Digital Health, and Mayo Clinic Proceedings.
Dr. Elhassan is also the first author of the British Society for Endocrinology guideline for the evaluation of androgen excess in women.
Dr. Elhassan is a regularly invited speaker in major international conferences such as the US Endocrine Society (ENDO) Conference and the British Endocrine Society (BES) Confernce. He also received several early career research-based awards from the British Society for Endocrinology and the US Endocrine Society.
Dr. Elhassan held several national roles in the British Society for Endocrinology including Lead of the Adrenal Network, Elected Member of the Clinical Committee, Member of the Programme Committee, in addition to selected membership in professional specialist groups that advised the Society in matters related to Adrenal and Pituitary gland disorders.
Dr. Elhassan resides in Abu Dhabi with his wife and son.
