Outpatient Rehabilitation services

The Outpatient Rehabilitation program offers a range of therapy services, including:

Cancer Rehabilitation

Our therapists provide treatment during and after hospitalization for head and neck cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer and lymphedema management. We address energy and fatigue management, cognitive assessment and training, scar management, muscle strengthening, range-of-motion training, yoga, self-management techniques and functional daily living training.

Cardiac Rehabilitation

Following heart failure, heart transplantation or postsurgical procedures, we work with patients on strength training, speed and endurance and prepare them to return to work.

Cognitive Training

For patients who have had conditions such as cancer, dementia, menopause, brain injury or stroke, our occupational therapists provide detailed assessments to address attention, memory, problem-solving and executive functioning. Customized cognitive strategies and training programs are designed to support everyday activities such as work, study and driving.

Dysphagia/Swallowing Disorders Service

Our program involves detailed assessments and specialized tests, such as videofluoroscopic swallow studies and fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing. A customized plan is created for each patient, which may include strengthening of the swallowing muscles, swallowing exercises, maneuvers, specialized dietary modifications and feeding techniques.

Hand and Upper Limb Service

For patients who have conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, swan neck deformities, trigger finger or tenosynovitis, or who have had hand or shoulder surgery, our hand therapists teach patients precautions to follow, exercises, joint protection strategies and the use of adaptive techniques and tools for daily activities. Hand splints may be prescribed together with different therapy modalities, such as paraffin wax.

Limb Loss Service

Patients who have lost a limb are seen for pre-prosthetic and post-prosthetic rehabilitation. Therapists develop a strengthening program, sensory reeducation, pain reduction strategies and body image support in preparation for prosthetic use. A prosthesis is prescribed to meet the patient's condition and daily functioning needs.

Pelvic Health Rehabilitation

Our male and female pelvic health rehabilitation service supports patients with pelvic health conditions such as constipation, incontinence, pregnancy-related conditions, pain, sexual dysfunction and prolapse. Therapists provide customized therapy programs to address muscle strengthening, biofeedback, posture, muscle tone, breathing, relaxation, habits and routines.

Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation

For patients experiencing shoulder, neck, back or hip pain, scoliosis, muscle or tendon strains or tears, arthritis, disc injuries, fractures or other pain conditions, therapy programs involve manual therapy for soft tissue release, muscle strengthening, flexibility exercises, postural alignment, body mechanics, pain management, hands-on manipulation using various techniques and therapy modalities.

Neurological Rehabilitation

We support patients following a stroke or living with Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, spinal cord conditions or scoliosis, as well as patients requiring spasticity management. Therapy programs address balance, coordination, falls prevention, gait training, mobility, hand function, spasticity management, swallowing difficulties, cognitive retraining, speech and language and daily living activities, as appropriate.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Following a transplant or for a lung condition, our therapy programs help strengthen breathing muscles and teach patients ways to manage living with a lung condition. A team of providers focuses on exercise, education, compensatory techniques and the provision of breathing equipment.

Tracheostomy Weaning

Our speech therapists help patients safely progress toward removal of their tracheostomy tube by supporting breathing, voice, communication and swallowing recovery through multidisciplinary care with ENT and Respiratory Therapy.

Pre- and Post-Transplant Rehabilitation

Our therapy programs are provided to optimize patients’ strength and endurance prior to transplantation. Post-transplant programs focus on recovery and return to daily life, overall conditioning, strengthening, endurance, scar management, fatigue management and customized activities to support a return to daily living.

Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy

This involves specialized techniques to address eye movement control, balance retraining, walking speed, environmental management and awareness of symptoms to help prevent falls.

Voice Rehabilitation

This service helps individuals restore and optimize their voice, reducing the impact of voice disorders and supporting effective communication in daily life, work and social activities.
