Comprehensive Gastroenterology Program

Overview

The Comprehensive (or general) Gastroenterology Program at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi treats patients with a wide range of gastrointestinal disorders. This includes evaluation of patients with the entire spectrum of gastrointestinal symptoms and treatment of conditions such as peptic ulcer disease, malabsorption disorders, Helicobacter Pylori infection, and many more.

Our multidisciplinary team includes specialists in Gastroenterology, Clinical Dietetics and Nursing. Together, they bring extensive experience and expertise in evaluating and treating even the most complex gastrointestinal conditions.

Patients are often referred to the Comprehensive Gastroenterology Program when they have nonspecific gastrointestinal symptoms that are not initially associated with a certain gastrointestinal subspecialty. Nonspecific gastrointestinal symptoms may include weight loss, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. Once diagnosed and evaluated, patients may be referred to one of our Gastroenterology

Diagnosing General Gastroenterology Diseases

Our Comprehensive Gastroenterology Program offers the latest advances in minimally invasive endoscopic technology, allowing us to diagnose gastroenterology diseases in an effective, safe and more comfortable way. This includes:

Colonoscopy: A long, thin, flexible tube with a camera (an endoscope) is passed into the bowel. It is a test used to check inside of the large bowel and to help identify the cause of bowel symptoms.
Sigmoidoscopy: An endoscope is passed into the first part of the large bowel to examine the symptoms that may be causing bleeding or a change in bowel habits.
Capsule endoscopy: A state-of-the-art procedure in which a tiny capsule which has a camera inside is swallowed. The camera can take pictures of the entire gastrointestinal tract.
