Faeces Collection for Occult Blood Test

You have received one or two screw cap stool containers and a plastic bowl for specimen collection, depending on what your doctor is investigating.
Please follow these instructions carefully to ensure your test results are accurate and reliable.
- DO NOT take the following medications: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications like Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Indomethacin, Celecoxib, Refocoxib and vitamins. PLEASE ASK YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT YOUR MEDICATIONS YOU ARE TAKING.
- DO NOT collect stool samples during your menstrual period. Wait 3 days after the bleeding has stopped.
- DO NOT collect stool samples while you have bleeding haemorrhoids or blood in your urine.
- Label the stool container with your name, date of birth and date and time of collection.
- Ensure no urine comes in contact with the stool sample.
- Pass urine into the toilet first if necessary. Place a clean disposable plastic container into the toilet bowl to catch the faeces.
- Using the scoop inside the stool container lid, collect an amount the size of a thumbnail. Place it into the container and secure tightly.
- Deliver the specimen to the outpatient laboratory IMMEDIATELY (within one hour) after collection. If the delivery is delayed, refrigerate the specimen.
