Philips Sleep and Respiratory Care

Urgent Safety Notice

Philips Sleep and Respiratory Care: BiPAP or CPAP Masks

Philips Respironics, the makers of the masks used by some patients at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, have issued an urgent safety notice regarding the following devices (please see images below for further details):

  • Amara View Minimal Contact Full-Face Mask
  • DreamWear Full Face Mask
  • DreamWisp Nasal Mask with Over the Nose Cushion
  • Wisp Nasal Masks and Wisp Youth Nasal Masks
  • Therapy Mask 3100 NC/SP

These masks contain strong magnets and Philips Respironics have updated the contraindications and warnings to patients with regards to their use.

For patients who may have certain metal implants, or in patients who have household members, caregivers, or bedpartners with certain metal implants they recommend that these devices SHOULD NOT be used.  Please see below a list of implanted devices that may be affected.

The magnets in the masks may interfere with certain implanted metallic medical devices and metallic objects in the body, affecting their function or inducing movement.

If you would like to discuss the risks to your health and review your options with regards to the use of your mask, you can message your doctor directly through the Patient Portal App or through our Contact Center (80082223).  You can also send an e-mail to [email protected] and a respiratory therapist will get back to you within 24 hours (on business days).

Please visit the Philips Respironics  website for further information on the machines affected.

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi will continue to keep you informed as updates are received from Philips Respironics.
