25Dr. Mona Tareen, MD, MS, is a Staff Physician in the Oncology Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Tareen worked as a Palliative Hospitalist within the Department of Hematology Oncology and as a Director of Palliative Care at the American Hospital in Dubai, UAE.
Dr. Tareen completed her Internal Medicine Residency Program at the University of Chicago Hospital, Illinois, and completed her fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at Rush University Medical Center, Illinois, US. She then completed a fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at Midwest Palliative and Hospice Care Center in Illinois. She worked in Chicago for 14 years and then transitioned to the UAE.
Dr. Tareen completed her Masters in Cannabis Science and Therapeutics, which is a two-year program from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy in 2023 and she has now enrolled in a PhD program in palliative care from University of Maryland, Baltimore. US. She’s currently the only medical cannabis trained physician in the region and plans to study the role of cannabis at end of life, in addition to cultural barriers in palliative care.
Dr. Tareen resides in Abu Dhabi with her wonderful twin girls. She enjoys meditation and traveling during her time off.
