Dr. Karlo Toljan

Dr. Karlo Toljan, MD, PhD, is a Staff Physician within the Neurology Department of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s Neurological Institute.

Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Toljan was a Neurologist at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, US.

Dr. Toljan received his medical degree from the University of Zagreb School of Medicine, Croatia. He completed his Neurology residency training at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio, US, followed by a Neuroimmunology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Mellen Center for Multiple Sclerosis Treatment and Research. As a recipient of the Slyvia Lawry Physician Fellowship, he was supported by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

During his training, Dr. Toljan obtained a PhD in clinical-translational science at the Case Western Reserve University.

As a significant scientific contribution, work conducted as part of his dissertation supported the inclusion of the central vein sign as a reliable neuroimaging biomarker in the formal diagnostic criteria for multiple sclerosis. He has published multiple book chapters and papers in peer-reviewed medical journals.

Dr. Toljan is committed to excellence in clinical care for patients with multiple sclerosis and related disorders but is also motivated to help those with neurological symptoms at the beginning of their diagnostic path.
