Dr. Aniruddha Agarwal, MD, is an Associate Staff Physician in the Eye Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Agarwal was Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology (Vitreoretina and Uveitis services) at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India.
Dr. Agarwal received his medical degree from the Seth G.S. Medical College and King Edward Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, India. He completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India. Dr. Agarwal completed his Postdoctoral Clinical and Research fellowship in diseases of the Retina and Uveitis at the Stanley M. Truhlsen Eye Institute, University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska, USA. After his fellowship in the USA, Dr. Agarwal practiced as a Vitreoretina Surgeon and Uveitis Consultant in India where he served as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India.
Dr. Agarwal is a member of various international scientific societies such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS), International Uveitis Study Group (IUSG), International Ocular Inflammation Society (IOIS), and several others. He is an American Board Eligible Ophthalmologist with previous medical licenses issued for Nebraska and California, USA.
Dr. Agarwal is a prolific researcher and has published over 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts in international literature and book chapters. He was the editor of the book, Uveitis Atlas, released by Springer (Germany) in 2020. He is a vitreoretinal surgeon and leads an International Consortium on surgical management of vitreoretinal diseases with colleagues from Italy and USA. In addition, he is a member of the international Collaborative Ocular Tuberculosis Study Group (COTS). Dr. Agarwal has keen interest in retinal and choroidal imaging and has participated in several international research projects as the lead author.
For his achievements in the field of medicine, Dr. Agarwal was conferred the Gold Medal by the Honorable Prime Minister of India in 2014. He has won several international awards from Vitreoretina and Uveitis societies to date.
Dr. Agarwal's experience in both the US and India has contributed to his diverse expertise in eye disease and surgery across various patient populations and disease presentations. He is one of the leading international researchers in the field of retinal imaging and therapeutics.
Currently, Dr. Agarwal resides in Abu Dhabi with his wife and daughter. When he is not working at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Agarwal enjoys spending time with his family and going for walks on the beach.
