Charles
Ahene, MD, is a Staff Physician in the Anesthesiology Institute at Cleveland
Clinic Abu Dhabi. Dr. Ahene provides expert anesthesia care to patients
undergoing complex heart operations, as well as other areas of
anesthesia, including anesthesia for vascular surgery, organ transplantation
and general anesthesia.
Prior
to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Ahene worked at several tertiary
medical centers and teaching hospitals. He started his career as an Assistant
professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson,
Mississippi, US, where he trained resident physicians and also served as Director
of Cardiac Anesthesia.
Following
his time in Mississippi, Dr. Ahene moved to Saudi Arabia, where he served as a Consultant Anesthesiologist at King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh. He
subsequently relocated to Abu Dhabi, where he was involved in the establishment
of the Adult and Pediatric Cardiac Surgical Services at Sheikh Khalifa
Medical City.
He is board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesia and board-certified in Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography by the American Board of Echocardiography. He holds medical licenses from the States of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Mississippi and Kentucky in the US. He is also a member of the International Anesthesia Research Society and the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesia.
Dr. Ahene received his
degree from the University of Ghana Medical School, Accra, Ghana and
completed his residency in both Internal Medicine and Anesthesiology at Howard University Hospital, Washington, DC. He later completed a fellowship at
Cleveland Clinic, Ohio.
