PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program receives accreditation from American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s postgraduate year 1 (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency Program has received accreditation from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). The program is granted accreditation for a further 8-year cycle of residents – The highest number of years awarded by ASHP for accredited programs

What is the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists?

The ASHP is a professional organization that represents pharmacists serving patients in hospitals, health systems, and ambulatory settings. ASHP is at the forefront of improving standards of medication and patient safety within healthcare.

Following a thorough review of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program, a 2-year program that builds upon knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities gained from a professional pharmacy degree, the ASHP Board of Directors awarded a Certificate of Accreditation to the program. The program, open to UAE nationals, is one of only two accredited pharmacy programs available in the UAE.

What does Accreditation mean?

The ASHP set the standards globally for accreditation within postgraduate pharmacy residency programs.

Accreditation is a gauge against which the quality of the learning experience offered by a residency program, can be measured. It demonstrates that the program has been stringently evaluated against a set of industry standards and that the resident is guaranteed a comprehensive learning experience of the highest quality

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi supports the accreditation of all residency programs and recognises their importance in ensuring professional competence is achieved within the delivery of patient-centered care.
