Diagnosis & Treatment

Diagnosis of Pulmonary Disorders

Diagnosis of pulmonary disorders requires a consultation with a pulmonologist, including a detailed analysis of the patient’s medical history as well as a physical examination. Depending on the symptoms, some tests may be necessary, including:

  • Pulmonary function tests: A range of tests used to measure how well the patient is able to breathe in and out, and how efficiently the lungs provide oxygen to the blood.
  • CT scan or x-ray: These tests provide detailed images of the lungs and inside of the chest.
  • Blood tests: A blood sample will be taken and analyzed at our lab.

Based on the results of initial testing, additional tests may be ordered.

Treatment of Pulmonary Disorders

A treatment plan will be designed according to the individual patient’s symptoms and the diagnosis. Chest disorders are often caused by other diseases; in these cases, pulmonologists at the Respiratory & Critical Care Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi work closely with other specialists to provide comprehensive treatment.
