Precision Prevention Program
The Mubadala Health Precision Prevention Program, delivered by Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, as part of its Center for Healthy Living, is the first in the region to offer a novel approach to disease prevention. Using advanced precision diagnostics and lifestyle management principals, we offer a sophisticated prevention program, that is tailored to your health needs of today and tomorrow.
‘Precision prevention’ originates from the concept of precision medicine, in which aspects of healthcare are tailored to the individual patient to achieve improved outcomes. In precision prevention, an individual’s family and personal health history, environment and lifestyle choices are reviewed and combined with advanced technology in human data, such as proteomics and genomics, to develop prevention programs and strategies to prevent disease. These are based on lifestyle medicine principles and can be tailored to the individual patient or entire patient populations.
Our Precision Prevention Program aims to ensure that the most effective and efficient interventions are targeted at the right people, at the right time. The program aims to move away from a traditional approach to healthcare where the disease is treated, and instead aims to prevent the disease from developing in the first place, allowing you to lead a healthier life.
Our Precision Prevention Program consists of two sophisticated elements; advanced precision diagnostics, which includes proteomics, genetic screening, and advanced lipid testing, and lifestyle management principals
Precision Diagnostics
Proteomics: A simple blood test that tests for 7,000 different proteins in the body. This information is analysed with artificial intelligence that look for patterns within these proteins. Proteins are dynamic, meaning they change depending on their environment, which is why they best represent your current health status. When reviewed with other factors such as your personal health history, your family history of disease and lifestyle choices and your environment it can help to predict the future risk and give you the best “snapshot of your health” of your risk of a wide range of conditions including:
- Risk of a cardiovascular event like stroke or heart attack
- Liver fat
- Cardiorespiratory fitness (V02 max)
- Lean body mass
- Body fat percentage
- The impact of alcohol consumption on the patient
- Glucose tolerance
- Visceral fat
- Resting energy rate
- Kidney function
Proactive Genetic Health Screen (Coming Soon): It is estimated, that around 16% of healthy adults carry a serious health-related genetic risk. This screening is a blood test designed for healthy individuals to give them an important insight on specific genetic risks based on their DNA. This genetic health screen reveals if you are at increased risk (or not) for specific
hereditary conditions including hereditary cancer syndromes, hereditary cardiovascular disorders, in addition to other medically important hereditary conditions by analysing 147 well-established genes.
If you have a personal or family history of cancer the genetic counsellor may offer a more focused diagnostic genetic panel.
NMR LipoProfile Blood Test: This is an advanced diagnostic test which uses nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to measure the number and size of Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) particles within your body, which contribute to heart disease. It also measures other aspects of cholesterol such as HDL and VLDL subclasses, in addition to a measure of insulin resistance, or how well your body handles the sugars that you eat. This detailed information on lipoproteins gives doctors a more accurate and personalized picture of a patient’s risk of cardiovascular disease compared to a standard lipid profile test
Lifestyle Management
A multidisciplinary team of specialists including doctors, nurses, dieticians, and sports therapists, take the detailed information obtained from the precision diagnostics and create a personalized and tailored plan that can help patients to stop these diseases from developing or progressing. We focus on nutrition, movement, sleep, risky substances, stress and social connection. The proteomic, genomic and lipid tests help us identify which areas of your health need the most attention now. We work with you using proven methods over 3 or 6 months to help you change your habits and redirect your health. If we identify genes that confer a higher risk of cardiovascular disease or cancer, we offer referrals to our specialty clinics including cardiology and high-risk cancer clinics.
