The Hospital Medicine Program at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s Medical Subspecialties Institute provides comprehensive, Patients First care to patients who require hospitalization for the diagnosis and treatment of acute disorders.

The program physicians also serve as consultants on medical teams that care for patients admitted to the hospital for subspecialty care or surgery.

What We Treat

Hospital Medicine Program physicians treat a variety of conditions, including:

• Pneumonia: An infection of the lungs that causes inflammation of the airways and a buildup of fluid that restricts one’s ability to breathe properly.
• Urinary tract infections: An infection of the urinary tract, also called a UTI, that affects the bladder, the kidneys, or the urethra.
• Soft tissue infections: Bacterial infection of the skin or soft tissues, like the muscles.
• Asthma: A chronic condition characterized by long-term, periodic inflammation of the airways.
• Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: A group of chronic lung diseases, also called COPD, that over time, make it increasingly more difficult to breathe.
• Hypertension: Consistently elevated blood pressure in the arteries, also called high blood pressure.
• Kidney disorders: A group of conditions that result in the progressive loss of healthy kidney function.
• Gastrointestinal disorders: A group of disorders that affect the gastrointestinal tract, which includes the stomach, the liver, and the pancreas.
• Heart failure: A chronic condition that results in the slow, progressive decrease in the ability of the heart muscle to pump blood through the body.
• Diabetes: A chronic condition that develops when the body either cannot use the hormone insulin properly or does not produce enough of it. This causes blood sugar levels to rise and can lead to serious health complications.

Hospital Medicine Program physicians also collaborate with surgeons to care for patients undergoing surgical treatment for their conditions. This helps to provide the best, comprehensive treatment and lowers the risk of complications after surgery.
