What We Treat
Heart Disease is the leading cause of death of women in the UAE and around the world. That means that statistically, women are more likely to die from heart disease than anything else.
Yet only 4% of women consider the health of their heart a concern and despite 80% of all women living with at least one risk factor for heart disease, most are unaware of the symptoms and warning signs to look out for.
What are the risk factors for heart disease in women?
Awareness around the risk factors for heart disease is very low. Many women do not realize that risk factors may impact women and men differently. Many women are living with at least one risk-factor, so getting to know the risk factors is the first step in prioritizing your heart’s health. Risk factors can include:
- High cholesterol
- High blood pressure
- Obesity
- Diabetes
- Smoking
- Family history
- Menopause
- Pregnancy
- Polycystic ovaries.
What are the symptoms of heart disease in women?
Research shows that many women aren’t aware of the symptoms of heart disease. Taking the time to familiarize yourself with some of the early warning signs could save your life. Early signs may include:
- Chest discomfort or heaviness
- Shortness of breath
- Left arm or shoulder discomfort or numbness
- Pain in the jaw, neck or back
