Patients are first assessed via a comprehensive examination, performed by the Eye Institute’s nurses or orthoptists. Following this, a pediatric ophthalmologist completes a medical exam. An initial comprehensive exam includes administering drops to dilate the pupils and takes 2 hours. Follow-up examinations may be performed by orthoptists and/or pediatric ophthalmologists, depending upon the condition.
Treatment for children is individualized, based on their specific diagnosis. Treatment options may include one, or a combination of the following:
