Dr. Sara El Ouali

Dr. Sara El Ouali, MD, is a staff physician in the Digestive Disease Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. El Ouali worked in Montreal, Canada, where she previously earned her medical degree from McGill University and where she was awarded several scholarships for academic excellence.

Dr. El Ouali completed her Internal Medicine residency at the McGill University Health Center, where she was awarded the Ezra Lozinski prize in recognition of her outstanding compassion, understanding and sense of responsibility.

She completed her Gastroenterology & Hepatology fellowship as Chief Resident at McGill University, and then underwent additional advanced training in inflammatory bowel disease at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. She acquired extensive experience managing complex patients with IBD during her time in Cleveland.

Dr. El Ouali is American and Canadian-Board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.

Dr. El Ouali has published numerous articles and book chapters and has presented at major international conferences. She is actively involved in IBD research and academic activities with Cleveland Clinic, Ohio and other international sites. She is the associate co-editor of the IBD Journal for social media and is also part of the editorial team of several gastroenterology journals.

Dr. El Ouali is passionate about gastroenterology, and has a special interest in Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Other interests include the impact of COVID-19 on patients with IBD and other gastrointestinal diseases.
