Carlos A. Mestres, MD, is a Staff Physician in the Heart & Vascular Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Mestres was on faculty at Hospital Clinico, Barcelona, in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery.
Dr. Mestres is certified by the European Board of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (EBTCS), and currently serves on the board for prestigious medical journals. He is an Associate Editor, European Journal of Cardio-thoracic Surgery (EJCTS), a Section Editor at the Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals and a member of the Editorial Board of The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular surgery (JTCVS) and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Spanish Journal of Thoracic-Cardiovascular Surgery. He is the author or co-author of over 200 articles in medical and peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Dr. Mestres is a member of European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS), the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS), the Spanish Society of Thoracic-Cardiovascular surgery (SECTCV), and the Asian Society for Cardiovascular and thoracic surgery (ASCVTS). He was inducted as Honorary Fellow of the Indian Association of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons (IACVTS) IN 2011 and is the current President of the Spanish Society of Cardiovascular Infections (SEICAV) and a Board Member of the International Society of Cardiovascular Infectious Diseases (ISCVID).
Dr. Mestres received his medical degree from the Medical School, University of Barcelona. He completed his training in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at the Hospital Clinico, University of Barcelona and at the San Jorge Cardiovascular Centre, Barcelona.
