The Musculoskeletal Imaging Program at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s Imaging Institute provides expert imaging for bone, joint, and muscle disorders. The multidisciplinary team of caregivers make use of a range of imaging technologies, including radiography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and ultrasound.
In addition to Musculoskeletal Imaging services, the Program is unique for its deep medical focus on rheumatological disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and gout, as well as bone and joint disorders related to diabetes complications.
The Musculoskeletal Imaging team is committed to providing a Patients First experience that is unique in the field of diagnostic imaging. The program incorporates the newest diagnostic and therapeutic methods as they become available.
What We Treat
The Musculoskeletal Imaging Program supports doctors in other specialties at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, including rheumatologists, podiatrists, surgeons, neurologists and emergency medicine doctors to facilitate timely and accurate diagnosis of bone, joint, and muscle disorders. Caregivers provide imaging support for conditions such as:

Rheumatological disorders: Conditions causing pain, stiffness or swelling in the joints or connective tissues.

Bone and joint disorders related to complications of diabetes (most commonly diabetic foot).

Bone and soft tissue tumors: Masses of abnormal cells that occur in bones and soft tissues which can be benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous).
Diagnosis & Treatment

The highly trained Musculoskeletal Imaging Program team offers the following imaging studies for bone, joint, and muscle disease diagnosis and treatment:

Bone, joint, and muscle imaging studies utilizing x-ray, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, and bone densitometry technologies.

Fluoroscopic and MRI joint arthrograms (studies using x-rays or magnetic beams to generate a series of photos of a joint).

Image guidance for steroid and anesthetic injections, used for diagnostic procedures and pain management.

Bone and soft tissue biopsies to check for tumors.
For any musculoskeletal imaging exam, a patient is first referred by a doctor from another Institute for the appropriate diagnostic test.
Once the appointment is booked, the patient will receive specific preparation instructions. Adhering to these guidelines is very important to ensure accurate results and to avoid delay in patient care.
Upon arrival, patients are greeted by a caregiver who will talk through the test procedure and answer any questions.
After each exam, Musculoskeletal Imaging Program caregivers compile an integrated report for the referring doctor, offering a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s overall condition.
