Eric Matayoshi, MD, is Interim Chief of the Digestive Disease Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. Dr. Matayoshi has had a successful career as a practicing surgeon and leader in the medical community for more than 25 years.
Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Matayoshi served as the Chief of General Surgery for Kaiser Permanente in Hawaii and was active in teaching and training surgical residents, holding appointments as Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery with the University of Hawaii and as a Senior Instructor of Surgery for the Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, US. Dr. Matayoshi was the President of the Hawaii Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, and is currently serving his final year on the Board of Governors for the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Matayoshi is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery. He graduated from Northwestern University in Biomedical Engineering and returned to his home in Hawaii to attend the University Of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine for his medical and surgical education. He completed his formal training with a fellowship in Burn and Critical Care Surgery at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center.
