Dr. Wesam Ahmed

Dr. Wesam Ahmed, MD, is the Department Chair for Hematology, Medical Oncology & Bone Marrow Transplant in the Oncology Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.  

Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Ahmed was the Division Head of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation at Cleveland Clinic Florida, Weston Hospital.  

Dr. Ahmed received his medical degree from Menoufia University, Egypt and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Brown University/Memorial Hospital of RI, US. Following residency, Dr. Ahmed completed a Fellowship in Hematology and Oncology from Tufts Medical Center, US.  

He earned a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics from Virginia Commonwealth University, in the US. He also completed a fellowship in Cancer Immunology at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Ahmed has published his work in multiple prestigious medical journals and has been an invited speaker in many universities and hospitals across the US and around the world.  

Throughout his tenure, Dr. Ahmed has treated hundreds of patients with bone marrow/stem cell transplantation and established himself as a leader in the care and treatment of blood cancers. He has more than 25 years of clinical and research experience in the treatment of hematological malignancies and bone marrow transplantation.  

Currently, Dr. Ahmed resides in Abu Dhabi, with his wife and daughter. Dr. Ahmed spent most of his childhood in the UAE, graduating from high school in Sharjah before leaving the country for his medical education and career. It is a great honor for him to be back to serve the country.
