Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi Receives Echocardiography Accreditation

First Facility in the UAE and one of the First Outside of the US to hold Echocardiography Accreditation in Three Key Areas

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has been granted a three-year term of accreditation in echocardiography by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC), in another important step forward for heart health in the UAE. 

Echocardiography is the use of ultrasound waves to investigate the action of the heart, providing images of the heart beating and pumping blood. These images are one of the most effective tools for identifying heart disease.

In receiving the accreditation, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi becomes the first facility in the UAE, and one of the first international facilities outside of the US, to hold echocardiography accreditation in the three key areas of adult transesophageal, transthoracic and stress echo. 

Dr. Mohammed Khalil, Cardiologist at the Heart and Vascular Institute, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, said: “To accurately diagnose heart disease it is necessary to have advanced equipment, experienced professionals specialized in the use of sonographic equipment, and an understanding of the assessment metrics to help inform on the best course of treatment. This accreditation demonstrates the progress we have made in the field of echocardiography and should reassure patients that they no longer need to travel abroad for diagnosis and treatment.” 

Throughout September, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is running an awareness campaign to educate UAE residents about cardiovascular disease, called ‘Know Your Heart’. The initiative is sharing practical measures that people can take to reduce their risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s Heart and Vascular Institute diagnoses and treats patients suffering from range of cardiovascular conditions. The institute has performed a number of regional firsts, including robotic mitral valve repair, totally endoscopic coronary artery bypass, as well as advanced surgeries to remove heart tumors and a remote heart monitoring program.
