Men! Have a health concern? Then MENtion It to your doctor. It’s time to open up, start asking questions, and get talking to your doctor about your health.

Men! It’s Time to Open Up

We know you don’t always like to talk about your health. And you are even more reluctant to come forward and discuss your concerns with your doctor. Many men worry about things like cancer, their sexual health or prostate concerns – but because we don’t talk about them, very few men know much about them. And even fewer take steps to prevent them. By opening up, asking questions, and seeing your doctor regularly for screenings and checkups, you can make sure any problems are detected early while they are easier to manage and treat.

Male Cancers

Cancers that affect men, such as prostate cancer and testicular cancer are one of the top concerns. Yet most men aren’t aware of the signs and symptoms of these types of cancers or what they can do to prevent them. Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men in the Middle East, but it is often misunderstood. The incidence of prostate cancer is increasing and regionally, many men are diagnosed at a late stage due to a lack of screening. While testicular cancer isn’t as common as prostate cancer, the number of cases is increasing every year. It tends to affect younger men, aged between 15 and 49. The good news is that there are things you can do to prevent male cancers, such as leading a healthy lifestyle and quitting smoking. And by attending regular screening, talking to your doctor about your family history, and making yourself aware of the symptoms, cancers like prostate and testicular cancer are more likely to be caught early when they are in the treatable or curable stages.

Prostate Concerns

Prostate problems are very common in men. Enlargement of the prostate, also called Benign Prostate Hyperplasia, affects as many as 1 in 3 men over the age of 50. Many men ignore the early signs, such as changes to your urination habits, which can indicate an issue with the prostate that needs to be treated. Simple measures can usually help to control the symptoms, so always talk to your doctor if you notice any changes in your urination pattern.

Gynecomastia

A very common condition that causes male breast enlargement, gynecomastia can affect men’s confidence and self-image, and can be a manifestation of malignancies in the breast as well as other organs in the body. Our General Surgery Department developed a male breast health program that offers comprehensive clinical and radiological evaluation to rule out hormonal imbalances and malignancies leading gynecomastia The program then offers a wide range of surgical options for men with the condition including innovative and minimal invasive breast surgery techniques.
