Robotic surgery, or robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery, allows surgeons to perform minimally invasive surgery with more precision, flexibility and control.
At Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, robotic surgery is currently carried out with the use of the da Vinci„¢ surgical system, which consists of a 3D camera and four, thin robotic arms with surgical instruments attached. The surgeon operates by controlling the arms from a computer console using hand and foot inputs, whilst watching a real-time magnified, high-definition view of the surgical area on screen.
