Dr. Scott D. Smith, MD, is Chief of the Eye Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, where he leads the team which performs complex eye surgery, including surgery for diabetic retinal disease and femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery.
Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Smith was Director of the Glaucoma Service and an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Columbia University in New York City. Dr. Smith previously worked as a staff physician at US-based Cleveland Clinic's Cole Eye Institute. He also has extensive regional experience, having served as the Associate Director of Research and as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Smith is a graduate of the Yale University School of Medicine and the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. He completed a residency in ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School's Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and a Glaucoma Fellowship at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Glaucoma Society, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He is an internationally recognized expert in the use of imaging technologies in glaucoma diagnosis and is the author of numerous scientific publications and ophthalmology textbooks.
