Biography

Dr. Nicola G. Ghazi, MD, is a Department Chair in the Eye Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.  

Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Ghazi was Professor and Chairman of Ophthalmology at the Lebanese American University in Beirut, Lebanon. Prior to that, Dr. Ghazi practiced as a vitreo-retinal surgeon at the King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; at The University of Virginia Health Sciences System in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA; and at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso, Texas, USA. 

Dr. Ghazi completed fellowship training in eye pathology at the Wilmer Eye Institute at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, in vitreoretinal surgery at the University of Virginia, and in medical retina at the Wilmer Eye Institute at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Dr. Ghazi earned his medical degree from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. He completed two residencies in Ophthalmology, the first at the American University of Beirut and the second at the University of Virginia in the US. 

Dr. Ghazi is an American Board-Certified Ophthalmologist who subspecializes in ophthalmic pathology and vitreo-retinal diseases and surgery. He is Chief of posterior segment in the Eye Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.

Dr. Ghazi's experience in both the US and Saudi Arabia has contributed to his diverse expertise in eye disease and surgery across various patient populations and disease presentations. His clinical and research work has contributed to innovations in the fields of retinal surgery, retinal imaging, and treatment of genetic retinal diseases.
